GWRC: Toxic algae in Hutt River

Toxic algae has again been found in parts of the Hutt River. Monitoring of the Hutt River at Silverstream shows the amount of toxic algae mats growing on the river bed has returned to moderate levels. Toxic algae warning removed at Hutt River at Silverstream

Following the heavy rain in recent days toxic algae has been flushed from the Hutt River and cover at Silverstream Bridge is now back below the ‘green’ surveillance threshold.  The warning has been removed from www.gw.govt.nz/summer-check.  Toxic algae information signs will stay in place in this area as growth will increase again with stable weather.
