Why carry out a survey?

The Mature Residents Survey will be used to identify what makes Upper Hutt a healthy and safe city and determine areas of need for mature residents. The information will be used to make changes to our city and advocate to other government agencies to improve services. The findings will also help identify areas of focus for Council’s Community Development work plans.

How was the survey carried out?

The survey was open to anyone over 50 living in Upper Hutt. It was completely confidential: no one that responded can be personally identified. The survey could be completed in writing on a printed survey, or online.
Printed surveys were distributed to over 50 community groups, social service providers, churches, retirement villages, and council facilities (such as the two libraries and main Council reception).
2847 printed surveys were distributed and 678 of these have been completed and returned (24% return rate). 90 online responses were received. The total number of responses is 768. This equates to approximately 7% of the total population of those over 50 living in Upper Hutt.
