Nappy composting

The number of disposable nappies required is one of the most surprising (and expensive) discovery’s expecting and new parents make. A baby is changed around 6000 times from birth to potty trained (around 2.5 years). If disposable nappies are used, it will cost as much as $4,000 per child. just to buy the nappies

In the Wellington region there are approximately 17,500 babies under 2.5 years.

That equates to around $28 million worth of disposable nappies being used once and thrown out every year. Once used these nappies turn into around 7,432 tonnes of sanitary waste per year.

So disposable nappies cost lots to buy, and make a big impact on the environment if we just send them to landfill.
