If you have a water leak on your property then it is a good idea to contact Council about it. If the source of the leak is in your home or property then in a majority of cases you will be responsible for repairing it. However, if the leak stems from the water mains or beyond the boundary of your property then Council may be responsible for fixing it.

The best way to determine whether this is the case is to call Council on (04) 527 2169 and follow the prompts. Alternatively you can email us at askus.uhcc.govt.nz or use the link in the Resource & Links section if you would like to report the problem online.

Responsibility for the leak will be determined in accordance with Upper Hutt City Council’s Water Supply Bylaw 2008, which states that:

9.2.1.2 For properties that do not have the service valve located in accordance with clause 9.2.1.1 above the Point of Supply will be defined by Council and recorded.
9.2.1.2 For properties that do not have the service valve located in accordance with clause 9.2.1.1 above the Point of Supply will be defined by Council and recorded.
