Upper Hutt City Council announces Positive Ageing Week
Positive Ageing Week celebrated 20 – 27 September 2014.
UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 12 SEP 2014—To celebrate United Nations International Day of Older Persons, Upper Hutt is having a week of events to recognise this. Positive Ageing Week, 20 – 27 September, is a chance for our mature residents to have fun, connect with each other and community groups, and learn some basic skills on ageing well.
There will be a wide variety of free activities over Positive Ageing Week to cater for different interests, abilities and work schedules. Some of the key highlights include Engage As You Age-Antiques Roadshow and Community Group Expo on Saturday 20 September.
“This has been one of our most popular events in previous years,” says Community Development Advisor, Sofía Robinson. “For those who want to book in their space with Pete from Antiques Roadshow, I would advise doing so quickly through the Council website. Also, come down to the Library on Saturday to check out the live music and community groups.”
Other highlights of Positive Ageing Week include a guided tour through the WWI: Tracing the Footsteps from Trentham exhibition at Expressions by director Leanne Wickham, and a free day for those aged 60 years old and above, at H2O Xtream aquatic centre, including free access to their pools, sauna, steam room, and spa. Positive Ageing Week also ties in with the Pop-up Museum for the Memories of Main Street in The Mall, starting on Wednesday 24 September.
