GWRC invites Upper Hutt residents to Hutt River workshops
Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) is inviting Upper Hutt residents to attend one of two community workshops to hear your views on the Hutt River Environmental Strategy review.
Last year the Hutt Valley Floodplain Management Subcommittee approved a review of the Hutt River Environment Strategy to address recreational and environmental challenges developing in the river corridor. GWRC woould like you to join them to discuss the review, which is being driven by the changing circumstances that face this popular space and will set the direction for its management over the next 20 years.
Since the original strategy was prepared, use of the corridor has accelerated to more than 1million visits per year and the range of recreational and entertainment activities it supports is quickly growing. There is, in this demand for new uses, the potential for conflict from unmanaged growth. The review is therefore designed to identify who uses the river corridor and for what purposes, to establish a positive strategic direction and consistent rules and guidelines that will manage growth for the benefit of all users.
