Trentham Memorial Park playground upgrade underway

An upgraded playground at Upper Hutt’s iconic Trentham Memorial Park begins today.

UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 10 OCT 2016—10 October marks the beginning of the playground upgrade at Trentham Memorial Park (TMP). The current playground will be removed and the new playground will be constructed over a six-week period.

The new playground will be installed by Playco Playgrounds and feature a number of different, New Zealand-made and imported components. There will be a range of components catering for all age groups from traditional to adventure items including two large forts, a 4.5 metre-high mega swing, double-basket swing, skysurf, and rodeo board.

The new expanded playground will extend into the nearby treed area where children and adults will be able to explore and play in the natural environment.

“Council has increased its investment in the TMP playground due to the popularity of the park as a whole,” says Councils Parks and Reserves Officer, Conrad King. “This is one of our ‘destination’ parks, so we want to make sure that it has the facilities to support this high level of use, while continuing to entice people to enjoy the outdoor environment.”

Home to Barton’s Bush, TMP is frequently used by both locals and visitors. The park hosts summer and winter sports along with big events such as the Wellington Truck and Transport Show, Fireworks Fantastic, Summer Carnival, Equestrian Show and British Car Day. The Hutt River Trail also makes its way along the Park’s northern border.
