Youth Hackathon Weekend is coming back to Upper Hutt

Upper Hutt City Council is pleased to support another Hackathon Weekend in Upper Hutt to help boost youth wellbeing and leadership in the Upper Hutt community.

UPPER HUTT, Wellington NZ, 01 JUN 2017—Do you have a great idea or project that will help youth wellbeing in Upper Hutt? Do you think you need help to get it kick started? Do you want access to a team of people with creative and diverse skills and ideas to make your project the best it can be?

Well, the Upper Hutt Hackathon Weekend may be exactly what you need.

Following the success of recent youth initiatives such as the Spearhead Leaders Programme and the Oro—Upper Hutt Lifehack programme, Upper Hutt City Council is supporting the return of the Upper Hutt Hackathon Weekend this July, led by Youth Development Upper Hutt.

“Working with our young people on projects like those resulting from the Oro—Upper Hutt programme has been a great success, giving our youth a sense of ownership and pride in their community,” says Council’s Community Development Team Leader, Sue Colville. “Supporting further Hackathon events will continue our work on engaging youth and encouraging participation in local decision making.”

Taking place over one weekend, 7 – 9 July, the Hackathon Weekend brings together a diverse range of people and skills to collaboratively work together on projects for youth.

Youth Development Upper Hutt is seeking expressions of interest from individuals or organisations that live or work in Upper Hutt, both to take part in the Hackathon Weekend or who would like to propose a project that could be worked on.

Projects can be anything as long as they focus on youth and making their lives great. Previous projects have been really diverse, e.g. youth suicide prevention, employment opportunities and youth voice and leadership.

If you’re interested in taking part in this fantastic event, please fill in the brief expression of interest form online by Monday 19th June.
