Roadworks notice—Main Street
Following up from last week’s news about pot holes in Main Street, the road in this area will be resurfaced which will also improve drainage and skid resistance. A pavement treatment has been chosen that involves removing the existing pavement then resurfacing to cater for future growth in traffic demand.
Works will begin on Sunday 24 June and expected to be completed on Friday 6 July. Work will take place during night time to accommodate everyday business activity in the area. There will be no work done on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 June however. .
The work will be carried out by Higgins contractors, who will be doing all they can to minimize the impact on households and businesses
In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work will be postponed until the next suitable shift and may delay completion.
If you have a vehicle, please make sure you park clear of the street. Your vehicle will need to be off the work site between 7.00 pm and 5.00 am. Please take care around the road works area. Ensure children in your care stand well back from the action and that they follow the directions of the workers. It is also a good idea to keep pets away from the area.
All new road works are routinely monitored and in some cases workers will need to return to the site to do things like repainting road markings and raising services.
Please note, there will be other works on Main Street between Gibbons and Royal Streets, south of Russell Street, and on Blenheim Street. These are minor works but are being programmed for nights to keep disruption down., these works are by Fulton Hogan. These minor works are programmed for 24 – 28 of June, and will be carried out by Fulton Hogan.
