Gateway and local business

Several of our local businesses support our colleges and youth via the Gateway programme.

Gateway provides work experience for the students but it can also help provide the skills our local businesses need to fulfil staffing requirements.

Gateway is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission and is for senior students to participate in long term work experience while also gaining work related unit standards.

The work experience is one day a week for a minimum of 10 weeks, but this can be extended with the agreement of the employer and student. All of the students undergo First Aid and Health & Safety training before they are placed with their employer.

The students are also given any clothing etc. they may need, so there is no cost to the employer except of course their time.

Over the years the colleges in Upper Hutt have received wonderful support from a wide range of  businesses, for which they are very grateful.
