California Park is located toward the North-eastern end of the suburb of Totara Park. It can be accessed from Larchmont Grove, California Drive, Galveston Grove, and the Hutt River Trail. The park’s amenities include a playground, tennis rebound wall, and wide open spaces. Similar to neighbouring Harcourt Park (across the river) a feature of California Park is the Wellington Fault crush zone. Access to Harcourt Park is via the nearby Norbert Street footbridge.

Repurposing the California Park Scout Hall—HAVE YOUR SAY

California Park is currently home to the Totara Park Scout Group Hall. Scouts New Zealand is no longer using the hall and is offering it to the Upper Hutt Municipal Brass Band.

Upper Hutt City Council owns the land on which the hall is situated. The band is seeking a lease from Council for the land before it commits to taking over the Hall. We’d like to know what you think of the band moving in.

Points to consider

  • Terms of the lease will require the band to comply with the rules for noise as specified in Chapter 32 of the Upper Hutt District Plan.
  • Generally, rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings, 5.30 – 9.30 pm.
  • Occasionally there may be additional rehearsals.

Tell us what you think by taking part in a short survey (~3 minutes). Click here to have your say.

This survey closes at 5.00 pm, Monday 11 March.
