The Environmental Health division is responsible for promoting public health and safety within the community. A wide range of regulations and bylaws are enforced, including abandoned vehicles. If you would like to report an abandoned vehicle, contact Council on (04) 527 2169 with the following details:

  • vehicle location / address where the vehicle is parked
  • make, model, colour of the vehicle
  • is the registration plate still attached
  • is the vehicle registered and/or warranted
  • does the vehicle still have 4 wheels attached
  • vehicle condition – burnt, wrecked, vandalised

Council’s General Inspector will investigate complaints and actively pursue the owner if they are able to be traced. Vehicles will have a notice attached to the front windscreen and the owners given seven days to remove the vehicle from the road.

Most vehicles investigated by Council Officers are removed by an owner. This has dramatically reduced the cost of abandoned vehicle disposal.

Council actively encourages owners to remove and if necessary responsibly dispose of immobile and/or unregistered, unwarranted vehicles from public roads.
