Christmas 2018/New Year 2019 collection
Christmas day and New Year’s Day fall on a Tuesday this Christmas season. Waste Management have informed us that services they usually provide on a Tuesday (including the collection of Council rubbish bags) will instead be collected on the Saturday prior (22 and 29 December respectively). For more information, please contact Waste Management on (04) 568 3550 or contact your service provider.
Conditions of collection
The following conditions are applicable to both urban and rural collections:
- Refuse bags should be placed at the foot of your driveway, just off the edge of the sealed carriageway by 7.30am on the morning of collection.
- Only official Upper Hutt City Council refuse bags available from local retailers (supermarkets, Warehouse and dairies within Upper Hutt) will be collected. The official refuse bag for Upper Hutt City is plastic and coloured green. By purchasing an official bag you are paying the contractor not only for the bag but also for its collection and disposal.
- There is no refuse or recyclables collection service available to industrial properties.
What can’t you put in your Council rubbish bag?
Do not place any of the following in refuse bags:
- hot ashes
- unwrapped broken glass
- any liquid
- any sharp object
- any green waste i.e. grass clippings, hedge trimmings etc.
Public holidays do not affect the collection of Council rubbish bags except for Good Friday, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
If you use an alternative refuse provider you should contact them for more detailed information about their public holiday collection service.
